This
Broadmoor
parrot figure is signed "Brook Forest Inn Colo" in ink and also has one
of the Inn's old
squirrel-on-a-log paper labels.

The
paper label is just like the envelope mark provided by a past owner of
the Inn. It
partially covered the ink writing and some of the incised markings.

We
steamed the label off to identify all of the markings
underneath. Regrettably a small amount of the ink and lacquer came off
in
the process and the uncovered incised markings revealed only a rather
ordinary PH Genter mark.

We
visited the Inn this year and found it had operated a
gift shop from the mid 1930s to the mid 1940s, selling among other
items "pottery made in Colorado Springs".

The
old Sanborn post card shows the front of the Inn just about as it is
today. |

The
Brook Forest Inn ad is from a mid 1935
Colorado Hotel Greeters Guide.
It reads "Plan to come and dine with us and you will be impressed with
the simplicity, style and charming beauty of the surroundings." |
