This 1931,
Newcomb
College vase is taken from a recent eBay listing. It has
the impression JH
for Jonathan Hunt
dating the vase
to his years there (1927-1933). The vase is
also notably marked with the cipher of Sadie Irvine, the
decorator. |

From Evans
Jonathan Hunt appears to have succeeded Robert Miller
(as potter).
Miller was hired to assist Joseph Meyer, one of
Newcomb's original potters, "in his latter years". |
||
Earlier Newcomb
vases are often similarly impressed with Joseph Meyer's
JM. |
After Newcomb College Hunt
threw pots for
Haeger at their Chicago World's
Fair
exhibit in 1934. He stayed on with them
for some time after
the Fair, but we don't
know how long. In late 1937, or thereabouts he joined
Broadmoor Pottery
at Denver.

||
Lots more later on Jonathan Bowne Hunt's work at Haeger and Broadmoor-Denver. |
